I always say that one of the best gits God gave a woman, was the gift of being creative! And I maintain we definitely received the gift of creativity from the Creator thereof. Whenever we take a drive through the countryside I always stand in awe at how beautiful everything is. And like my favorite Hillsong Worship song, the lyrics "Your hidden Glory in creation, now revealed in You our Christ". If we stop for a minute and look around, not just look, but truly see and truly grasp how amazing this world of ours are, creation is truly a masterpiece and truly reflects the Glory of God.
I always say to my husband that God is so creative. If you look at how everything just pieces together like a perfect puzzle. I believe that He bestowed this amazing gift of creativity onto His children. So many times if I look at what people achieve, invent, and just create, you will realize how God has blessed us, His children, with the same gift.
Today I would like to encourage you, our Sisters in Christ, to be creative with a project that we are launching.
I am a firm believer of the term "when helping someone, leave the camera at home". I believe that we should never be proud and boastful about doing something good for someone. The word of God teaches us that.
Matthew 6:2-4 New King James Version (NKJV)
2 "Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you [a]openly."
Only for the purpose of this project, will I be sharing a personal story of giving with you as I would like to use this as an example of what this project is all about!
Our project is called The Blessing Bag Project.
How it started...
A few months ago as my husband was leaving for work, I helped him by taking out our rubbish bins. As we took them outside, we were met with a few people that collect the recyclable materials. I am sure most of you are familiar with this. They collect recyclable items to take it in for recycling and receive a small fee for the materials. For most of them, this is their main source of income.
I always admire them as I do not believe that this is something any person would want to do. However our country is in desperate need, and work is very scarce and therefore many people resort to many ways to make an honest living. They are also doing much more than they know, by helping the planet with recycling. I honestly think that what they do, might not be the best job in the world, but it does so much for everyone without us realizing.
On this particular day, a lady (I suspect that she is in her mid 50's) was part of the recycling team. Immediately after seeing this, my heart felt broken. Men of all ages do what they need to to support their families, but this lady was much older than the regular crowd and she is a woman. As a woman, I felt hurt for her. The way that life had left her in a place that she had to rummage through everyone's garbage each day, in order to get paid a small fee for survival.
She is a woman like myself, like my sister, like my mom. She is in fact someone's daughter, sister and could even be someone's mother. And she is also a Daughter of a King!
What caught my attention is her joy. Despite her circumstances and what she needs to do every day for a small fee and to ensure her survival, she was smiling and seemed happy as she greeted us. I definitely learned something that day. No matter what your circumstances, you can still have joy in your heart, and it will make all the difference.
Something happened that day, and I just could not get this woman out of mind! I kept thinking of her. And I had a pressing feeling on my heart that I wanted to do something special for her.
I decided to take a handbag that had been in my cupboard for months, one that I was not using much, but still in a good condition and fill it with some goodies. I went on a mission and put a few items in the bag. Some body lotion, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, some tissues, a wallet and some cash. (which I will not disclose here)
I didn't want her to feel bad when I handed it to her, so I asked my husband that when she arrives on Tuesday morning, to please hand it to her and tell her that his wife asked him to pass on the handbag. Sadly I could not see the joy on her face, but he told me that she was very happy and equally surprised. She could not thank him enough.
The thought of making someone happy, makes me happy! It gives me joy. Knowing another woman felt loved, felt special, felt like a daughter of a King! I will be doing this again soon. I ask God to show me who I need to bless.
So here goes!
1. Ask God to reveal to you, who the person is that needs to be blessed with a Blessing Bag.
2. Find one of your handbags - that is still in perfect working order (we all have a few lying around)
3. Fill this bag with some personal items that will bring joy to another woman.
4. Write out a note, explaining why you chose to give her this bag. And remember to include your favorite piece of scripture. This is the perfect opportunity to share the Word of God!
5. Share your story with us! All posts will remain anonymous on all our platforms, we are only looking to encourage everyone to participate in this project!
I would like to challenge every woman that this post reaches to participate! Get CREATIVE!
I have to mention that I see this lady weekly, walking proudly with her handbag tucked in under her arm! It makes me so happy. And I realized that the gift I gave her, might have been the most treasured gift that she has ever received. I will never know. But what I do hope, is that one day when she has an opportunity to bless someone else, that she will remember her blessing and pass on the same act of kindness.
